We are now looking for a Research Assistant in Applied Physics (Organic Bioelectronics).
About the job
We are looking for a talented research assistant who wants to work with the manufacturing, characterization, and implementation of organic bioelectronic systems for drug delivery. The position is located in the Organic Bioelectronics (OBE) research group at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) at Linköping University. We are seeking a research assistant who can contribute to important experimental tasks related to these "iontronic" implants, which convert electrical signals into local drug delivery.
The research assistant will contribute to the manufacturing of iontronic conductors, 3D printing of drug reservoirs, assembly of implant systems, as well as quality control and testing of components and finished systems. The work combines practical manufacturing, system assembly, and electrochemical characterization in a highly interdisciplinary research environment.
The work is linked to a European research project coordinated by the OBE group, where we are developing implantable systems for future cancer therapies (see https://bioswitch-project.eu (https://bioswitch-project.eu)). The project involves partners in several European countries, and the work may include visits to collaborating partners in Graz and Vienna, Austria. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently graduated master's student to gain experience in cutting-edge research in bioelectronics and large-scale international research collaboration.
About you
You have completed an advanced degree in medical engineering, technical biology, (applied) physics, biophysics, materials science, or another related field.
We require that you have:
- Experience in electrical/electrochemical manufacturing of components or systems
- Experience in electrochemical characterization of components or materials
- Experience in experimental planning and data analysis
- Basic understanding of, or experience with, ion exchange or ion separation membranes/materials
- Ability to work and communicate fluently in English (all work at LOE is conducted in English)
In addition, the following areas are particularly meritorious:
- Experience in drug delivery technology
- Experience in iontronic technologies and characterization (as defined within the LOE group)
- Experience in spectrophotometry and concentration determinations
- Experience in 3D printing
Your workplace
The position is located at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE, https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics)), where we explore the electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest, and hybrid organic materials. LOE is united by a common interest in utilizing the combination of electronic and ionic charge for applications in energy, the Internet of Things, healthcare, and biology. The research covers synthesis, materials science, theory and modeling, component physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and system design, ranging from basic research to commercialization. LOE currently has more than 160 researchers and doctoral students distributed across 13 research groups that share open laboratory environments to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange.
You will formally belong to the Organic Bioelectronics research group (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics/organic-bioelectronics (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics/organic-bioelectronics)), led by Daniel Simon. LOE is part of the Department of Science and Technology at Linköping University and is located at Motala ström on Campus Norrköping.
